The composition is proposed in context of the dialogue of the tradition and modernism.
Brutal local stone with fragments of bas-reliefs and classic details are combined with tinted
glass and advanced metallic structures of a “crane-arm style”. This style adds an air of a
progressive movement to an everchanging future. Steps on the square in front of the main
entrance remind of ancient amphitheaters. The dome of the congress center is an
expressive dominant among the surrounding buildings.
Transportation of visitors, guests and personnel provided with bus stations near the SE
entrance. Transport scheme provides one-way traffic of vehicles clockwise from the street
Olimpijskih Pobjednika to the proposed driveway #1 and then to the driveway #2.
The building consists of two major volumes. The dome volume of congress hall
(multifunctional, philharmonic hall) and rectangular stepped volume of the theater are
joined by a curved multi-story foyer. The dome and the concave entrance are indented
from the red line forming an outdoor public piazza and green area. Theatrical volume sits
tight to the regulation line of parcel.
The author considers the maintenance of major facilities with a time shift, so that the
restaurant, exhibition, parking and other infrastructure can be used more evenly thus
avoiding excessive loads and downtime.
The main foyer has two entrances from the south-east from a round piazza and from
the west, from the driveway #1 facilitating to a free circulation of flows, air a light. Several
secondary, evacuation, technical exits are there along the perimeter. Level 0 is raised 2.1m
above the ground, which ensures good ventilation and daylight of the car park and the
Philharmonic department premises at level P1.
The underground garage with 101 places is located at level P1, P2. Three elevators bring
visitors into the lobby and the administrative part. The garage has two separate entrance
and exit ramps on the different sides of the complex.
VIP access is provided from the parking levels to the theater box and the congress hall box
with two additional elevators.
The loading of scenery and stage equipment is provided by the ramp from the northwest
side, there is also a lift for moving bulky decorations to/from the basement which has
a double height under the stage.
Food products for restaurants are delivered from parking level P1, where an integrated
platform for unloading products and collecting waste is provided, equipped with elevators
for shipping products to restaurant areas on both sides of the theater complex.
At level P2, there are ventilation chambers for supply/exhaust air through vertical shafts at
the corners of both scenes.
At the P1 level, under the stage of the congress hall, there are philharmonic halls with
rehearsal rooms, workshops, apartments for living and a library. Most of the rooms have
natural light through the windows in the basement.
At the ground level, the glazed main lobby welcomes visitors with a large
expressive space and distributes flows to the congress hall, theater, restaurants, etc.
The lobby focus is a multi-tiered space with a glazed roof, a wide curved staircase
stretches along an sun-lit wall with fragments of archaeological theater bas-reliefs.
At the ground level there are batches of rooms of both scenes, a wardrobe with
some 1200 hooks, a small restaurant with 100 seats, a buffet with drinks for 35
people and toilets. Under the glass dome to the left of the main entrance, there is a
stage of a conference hall with an organ. There are 1,445 seats compose an
amphitheater around it. Adjoining to the stage there are a rest room, storage for
instruments and chairs. A private ladder connects the stage with the rehearsal and
additional rooms located at the level P1.
To the right of the main entrance is a theater stage with parterre and two balconies
for 820 seats, two private lodges with a separate entrance and an elevator from the
parking lot are provided. The stage has a turntable of Ø11m, the size of the portal is
12m x 8m. In front of the stage there is an orchestra pit, behind the stage there is a
backstage, artistic, make-up, hair-dressing rooms, a warehouse for scenery
equipment. The audio video control booth is at the rear of the hall. Under the hall at
the level P2 there are warehouses for sets, costumes, workshops. There is a ballet
rehearsal room at P1.
On the 1st level there are exits from the balconies of the hall, a restaurant with the
possibility of self-service and menu service for 540 seats with its own kitchen and a
VIP zone for 14 people, a national restaurant with 90 seats with its own kitchen with
an opportunity of holding closed events. Products are delivered and removed via
internal lifts. Tables are designed for companies of up to 6 persons. There are two
groups of toilets on the floor.
Given the existing elevators, the number of eating places can be increased by
adding additional buffets at the level 2.
On the 2nd level there is an exit from the balcony of the theater, a lounge with an
exposition under the glass vault and access to the operated roof for small public
events, the press center, two transformable chamber halls, the theatrical
administration, and the rehearsal room for a troop.
At the 3rd level there are offices for rent (business center, stock market etc.) and the
administration’s rooms.
The structural scheme of the building – monolithic frame, girder cell, cast-in-place
slabs. The average height of floor is 4.8 m2. The Dome under congress hall is
constituent, tinted low emissive glass suspended on the metal braces of a “crane-armstyle”.
This style appears in the details on the other elevations. The glass vault of the
lobby rests on the arched metal trusses. The roof of the theater is laid on metal
trusses.
The facade is cladded with panels of local stone, curtain walls filled with two chamber
tinted glass and glossy spandrels in aluminum cases.
Interiors are proposed with stucco painting, plywood panels, special acoustic panels,
thin porcelain tiles.
